2017: The New Year's Pledge

Wednesday, January 04, 2017

The New Year stands before us like a fresh page in a blank book. New Year's resolutions are the perfect opportunity to take the first step to making changes to your routine and helping you take on whatever bigger challenges the year might bring. What will you write for the New Year? Try these five resolutions and start 2017 off feeling ready and refreshed.

  1. Schedule some "me-time"
It's easy to get busy with work and family that we forget to nurture ourselves by making time to do what brings us joy. Whether it's 10 or 30 minutes each day create a rest and recovery strategy to renew your sense of clarity and creativity. It will lead to a greater sense of wellbeing and increase your productivity.
  2. Learn to disconnect
Technology has become such an integral part of our lives that it's hard to imagine living without it. Work emails, texts and social media can leave little time to unplug each day. Although it has its benefits, it's important to find healthy ways to disconnect. Pledge to set limits on when to power down like an hour before bedtime. Bonus: Disconnecting before sleep gives your brain the opportunity to unwind and lead to more restful sleep.
  3. Live in the moment
Being mindful is one way to enjoy life to the fullest. Become more aware of your mind and body and learn to recognize what you're doing and why you're doing it. Take stock of every moment that brings happiness, silence the mental chatter and enjoy the present moment.
  4. Reduce your stress
Long work hours, little sleep, a poor diet - stress is an inevitable part of life. When trying to manage stress look for a holistic approach to help reduce and prevent stress. Try integrating aromatherapy into your relaxation routine. Breathe deep and find yourself calm and stress-free.
  5. Travel
The rewards of traveling can last long after a vacation. Tap into your adventurous side and rejuvenate and replenish your soul. Bonus: Traveling is great for fun, but it also increases mental wellbeing and helps build self-confidence by providing another form of self-discovery and new experiences.
