Earth Day Every Day: 5 Ways to Actually Make It Happen
Wednesday, April 05, 2017
Caring for our Earth has always been at the heart of what we do at Aromatherapy Associates – from plant to bottle, our natural ingredients are sustainably sourced through fair trade practices and our packaging have Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accreditation and we only use recyclable glass and plastic. That’s why we believe our Earth deserves more than just a day of our time.
Since 1970 on April 22nd, people around the world will change the world with local events and acts of conservation – but what about the other 364 days each year? It’s time to reconnect with nature and reflect on how each of us can make a difference every day. Here are 5 ways you can join us in making every day Earth Day.
- Use reusable bags, coffee cups and water bottles
Where you can, decline plastic bags from stores and use reusable bags for all your purchases. Making a small shift to your shopping routine can have a massive impact on reducing plastic waste. Do your part and help support local sustainability initiatives by using reusable coffee cups and water bottles. - Reconnect with nature
It’s easy to feel disconnected from our Earth – if we have a relationship with the planet, we are more likely to identify as connected to it, and feel a responsibility to protect it. Go outside every day and reconnect with nature. - Reuse and recycle
Recycling is one of the simplest things you can do to help our Earth. Try looking for alternatives to your cotton pads for washable gauze or muslin cloth when removing makeup at the end of each day to reduce bathroom waste. - Use alternate transportation
Walking, bicycling, public transportation, carpooling and ride sharing are all ways to green your transportation and reduce your carbon footprint every day. - Buy organic, local and fair trade
These types of products have a green advantage over conventionally produced goods. Organic discourages the use of chemical pesticides and other harmful synthetics – these are not only foreign to your body, but also harmful to the water, air and environment. Shopping locally helps support the local economy and reduces the miles your food (or product) travels from farm to plate. Buying products that is certified as fair trade means it was produced under conditions that encourage environmental sustainability, fair prices, fair labor conditions and community development.
